As of 1 July 2025, five CO2 emission classes will be introduced. The CO2 emission class 1 has the highest fees, while the CO2 emission class 5 is the most favourable one and is reserved for zero-emission vehicles. Initially, all vehicles will be assigned to the CO2 emission class 1, which, according to preliminary estimates, will include more than 90% of vehicles.
In case a vehicle was first recorded before 1 July 2019 or in case of vehicles of M2 and M3 categories (buses) no further action is necessary. These vehicles will automatically be assigned to the CO2 emission class 1 with the highest fees, with the exception of vehicles powered purely by electricity and hydrogen – these are assigned to the CO2 emission class 5 with the lowest fees.
For vehicles first recorded in the vehicle registry after 1 July 2019, carriers can use the CO2 emission class finder at www.emyto.sk/en/co2-finder to verify whether their vehicle is eligible to be included in a higher CO2 emission class with lower fees.
If the finder indicates an emission class higher than the basic CO2 emission class 1, the vehicle operator can apply to be included in a higher CO2 emission class with lower fees in the Customer Zone of the emyto.sk web portal, by email or post.
If a vehicle is not assigned to an appropriate CO2 emission class, its operator will not be subject to any fine. A vehicle operator can also check emission class and, if necessary, verify whether the requirements for being assigned to a higher emission class have been met at any time after 1 July 2025.
